①［死なせる］

〔虐殺する， 暗殺する〕

3 〔特性を消す〕 suppress; block; hamper; 〔機能しないようにする〕 suppress; negate; remove; cut down; deactivate.

●レモン汁で魚の生臭さを殺す use lemon juice to get rid of [eliminate, dispel, reduce] fishy odors [the smell of fish]

・相手の差し手を殺す 【相撲】 immobilize an opponent's arm when he gets it under one's armpit; bring one's arm down over one's opponent's when he gets his hand under one's armpit

・コンセントを殺す(＝撤去する) kill a socket; render a socket inactive

・酒を殺して飲む suppress the effects of alcohol by will-power; drink and remain sober by sheer will-power

・スピードを殺す bring one's speed under control; control one's speed.
